Recent Watermark Hotel Review: "I dona€™t typically write reviews, but the Mokara hotel and its staff deserve it. Ia€™ve spent a lot of hotel time in San Antonio in the past due to my work and Ia€™ve stayed in many of the big brand hotels there included some of the historic ones. Let me just say that if Ia€™m ever in San Antonio again and I can help it, I wona€™t stay anywhere else but the  Mokara. My wife and I recently stayed there for our anniversary trip and it was just what we needed. Everything from the location, the hotel itself and the staff were great. Our initial greeting was warm and professional. Beautiful lobby. Rooma€¦excellent. Bathroom had jetted tub, celing height doors, marble vanity. Very clean and updated. Their turn-down servicer Great. Bath crystals, silk sleeping mask, bathrobes presented daily. The hotel is just the right size but very quiet. Rooftop pool/spa with cafA© and food service. While laying out by the pool we were presented with ice cold lemon water, cucumber soaked wash cloths, and Evian facial misters so a€śwe could keep hydrated in the hot sun". If I had another hand, the Mokara would get three thumbs up. Highly reccomend."

Expert Tip
Built in 1900, the hotel building originally housed the L. Frank Saddlery Company, which was one of the most successful leather-goods companies in the nation. This company produced saddles and harnesses for Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Riders." The saddlery also outfitted the legendary Mexican revolutionaly "Pancho" Villa, as well as honoring orders from Hollywood movie stars.
